I couldn’t wait to see just how far that darkness would take her.Įmperor Aldrik didn’t have much growth, in part due to the growth he’s made in the previous books.

It was this inner battle and dark time for Vhalla that had me utterly perplexed and engaged.

Her new found powers make her a monster fighter on the battlefield, and everyone begins to question her motives. She begins to lose weight, becomes more sadistic, and begins to turn against everyone around her. He torments her mentally, and even tortures her physically at some points. This new bond thrusts her into a psychological battle with Victor. I mean, did we really think she wouldn’t?) She tries to take down one of Victor’s creations and some of his magic enters her, and it creates a similar bond to the one she had with Emperor Aldrik. Vhalla inadvertadely creates a bond with Victor after she gets her power back (I won’t say how…it’s not much of a spoiler that she did get it back. Vhalla goes through a very tumultuous time in her quest to take down Victor, who has turned the Crystal’s power and corrupted them to accomplish his world domination. It was off-putting.Ĭharacters: This is where the book held on to the 4 star rating I will be giving it. The previous books made me excited to turn the page, and I didn’t feel like that until I got closer to the end. When I begin to feel like I’m turning pages just to reach the end that’s when I begin to be turned off. Crystal Crowned failed to deliver with a fast paced plot. In the previous books, there were plot twists, fast-paced action, heroics, amazing stand-offs. This was not on par with the previous books. I feel like I can sum up the book’s details by naming 3 important events. She fights as the champion of peace, but when the night is darkest will she be able to pay the price of a new dawn? Fragile alliances will be tested and new bonds will be formed as the world is reshaped. Vhalla Yarl stands upon the stage of fate, prepared to do battle one final time. One bloodthirsty ruler has been overthrown by another, casting the shadow of death over the Solaris Empire. Halfway through the series I was dead set on giving it 3 stars, but the last 3rd of the book bumped it up to 4 stars for me. Thus far, each book in the series has received a 5 star rating on my end, but this book broke that trend. Crystal Crowned is the last book in the Air Awakens series by Elise Kova and I must say I have some minor criticisms about it.
